Agenda:
8:00 to 8:45 - same day registrations.
8:00 to 9:00 - Pre-registered check-in.
      If you will be late and need a 1/2 point bye in the first round, call 918-812-1591 or 918-855-7811.
Rounds 1 to 5 at 9:30, 10:50, 1:00, 2:30 and 3:50, respectively.
5:45 - Tournament Awards.
6:15 – Denker Award Playoff, if there is a tie for 1st.

Registration:

The Tournament Registration Form in pdf Adobe Reader format is available in interactive format for on-line completion or blank format for printing copies.
Early registration is encouraged. This helps the tournament start on schedule.
$25 if postmarked by 22 Feb 03. The tournament program will include a list of all early registrants.
$35 at the door (please don't mail after 22 Feb 03)
Capacity is 360 tournament participants

Complementary OSCO Membership is included. Please provide an email address on the registration form for OSCO related email only.

Current USCF (US Chess Federation) membership is required.
Current USCF members, please bring your membership card for faster sign-in.
Annual scholastic membership is $19 for age 14 or less, and $25 for age 15 to 19.
Annual scholastic membership without magazine is $13 for age 14 or less, and $20 for age 15 to 19.
Before 1 Feb 03, you may join USCF by visiting the USCF web site.
Or, you may include your USCF membership fee when you register for the tournament.
Please do NOT join USCF directly after 1 Feb 03, to avoid confusion regarding USCF membership status.

Rules:
5-Round Swiss System, Team Sensitive, Individual/Team Competition.
First 4 rounds are G/40 (40 minutes per player to complete game).
Last round is G/50 (50 minutes per player to complete game).
Pairings are not team sensitive in the last round.
The tournament will be run in accordance with the USCF Official Rules of Chess.
The Tournament Director will be the final authority regarding all rulings.
Oklahoma Students Only.
USCF membership required.

Tournament Directors:
There will be five TDs.
Chief TD will be Steve Wharry, Ph.D., Research Fellow, Chevron Phillips Chemical Corp. He has been OCA VP since 2000 and was OCA President from 1987-90. His current USCF rating is over1900.

Sections:
K-3 Open
K-6 U750 (under 750 USCF rating)
K-6 Open
7-9 Open
9-12 Open

Teams:
A team will only consist of students from the same public or private school, which they attend daily.
Home school associations will be considered a school, and may form teams of students within their association that do not attend any public or private school.
Team scores will be the total of the top 4 scores in a section for players from the same team.
Coaches must provide a complete team list for each section by 8:30 the day of the tournament.
    Team rosters by section submitted by 22 February will appear in the tournament program
K-6 players rated under 600 may not move up to the open sections and dilute the competitiveness of the open sections. The only exception will be when two or less of the under 600 rated players are necessary to make a 4 person team in the open section, and the same school will retain a team in the K-6 U750 section.

Equipment:
If you have a chess clock, please bring it to use in the tournament.
Chess boards and sets will be provided for up to 360 players in the tournament room.
Please bring chess boards and sets if you want to use them between rounds for games or analysis.
You may bring other games to play in the Skittles area between rounds.
Scoresheets will be provided at the Tournament Director's table. Please provide your own pen or pencil (scorekeeping is optional).

Awards:
Team Trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each section.
Individual Trophies for 1st through 5th place in each section.
Individual Medals for 6th through 10th place in each section.
$1000 Scholarship to the 9-12 Open Section Champion for travel and lodging to represent Oklahoma at The Denker Tournament of High School Champions. This scholarship will not be won on tie-break points. If there is a tie in tournament points, there will be a blitz playoff following the tournament to determine the scholarship winner. The scholarship must be used to participate in the Denker Tournament in 2003. The Denker Tournament will be held in Los Angeles on 3-8 August 2003. If the champion is unable to participate in the tournament, the scholarship will go to the second place winner.

Donations and Volunteers:
OSCO is a non-profit organization run by volunteers who are interested in helping Oklahoma's young people better succeed in life through participation in quality chess activities. Volunteers are needed to help OSCO with it’s tournaments and other scholastic chess related activities.
Donations to OSCO also are also an excellent way to help Oklahoma’s youth through enhanced scholastic chess opportunities. There are several levels of recognition for the various contribution amounts, as described on the OSCO Donations page. Donations can also be made anonymously. OSCO also encourages in-kind donations of products or services directly helpful to OSCO, or to be given away at this state tournament. In-kind donations will receive the same level of recognition as cash contributions of the same value. All contributors of $50 or more will receive Patron Membership in OSCO.
