Oklahoma State Grade Championships 2015 Results

The best of Oklahoma’s best scholastic chess players gathered this weekend to determine a champion from each school grade. On Saturday, November 14, 176 young chess players from throughout Oklahoma gathered at Will Rogers High School in Tulsa to compete in the the 16th Annual Albert Rine Memorial State Grade Championships.

Regular tournaments match players using a ratings system based on their past tournament performance. In the Grade Championships, held each November, kids play only opponents from their same school grade. The event determined a state champion from each grade. School team awards were also given.

The Oklahoma Scholastic Chess grade champions for 2015-16 are as follows:

Grades K–1: Kelvin Xie (Washington Irving Elementary, Edmond)

Grade 2: Co-Champions: Maxwell Xie (Washington Irving Elementary, Edmond) and Malik Abouhouli (University School, Tulsa)

Grade 3: Maxwell Barnes (Wilson Arts Integration Elementary, Oklahoma City)

Cherokee Nation K-12 Open Results

17 October 2015 at Sequoyah High School in Tahlequah, Capital of the Cherokee Nation

115 Players from over 26 schools and homeschool affiliations participated in this event. It was the second of the 2015-16 OSCO Series season. Sections 4 and 5 for K-12 players rated under 900 and 1100, respectively, were combined for pairing purposes. Each section received separate awards, which is reflected in the team final standing tables below. The separated final individul standings are as follows:

University of Central Oklahoma K-12 Open

181 players from 47 schools and homeschool associations participated in the first OSCO Series event of the 2015-6 season. Some remaining issues with the online registration system caused a sizable delay for the first round. After that, the event went very well with some outstanding competition.

In the K-12 Rated Under 1100 Section, Co-champions were Viktorija Zilajeva and Loucas Miller with 3.5 points each. Viktorija won the trophy tiebreak blitz match which went to a third Armageddon game.

In the K-12 Rated Under 900 Section, Co-champions with 4.0 points each were Charity Farell, Timothy Lee, Simon Hart and Zachary Winn. After the blitz tiebreak, Charity took home the first place trophy and Timothy collected second, with Simon and Zach filling out the top four places.
