    Lubbock Open Chess Championship 2008 at Lubbock, TX on 26 April
    Fifth Annual All-Girls National Chess Championships at Dallas on 25-27 April
    Polgar National Invitational of Girls State Champions on 27 July to 1 August at at Texas Tech University (TTU) in Lubbock, Texas. Michelle Farell is our Oklahoma State Co-Champion ambassador to this event.

  • NOTICE: Due to the ice storm postponement of the TCC Holiday Open until after the State Championship, the Grand Prix schedule has been reduced from 7 to 6 events. Point totals will be based on two of the non-championship events plus the two championships (players may miss two non-championship events and still be in the running).

  • On the Tournaments and Events page with a flier and details for the Jenks Winter Open on 2 Feb 08. Please note the new registration policy for all OSCO Grand Prix Events. Pre-registered players must check-in before 9:00 am or will receive round 1 bye. All players registering onsite will receive a bye in round 1. This new policy is consistent with many large scholastic tournaments. It is now necessary to keep the growing OSCO events started on time with much less last minute stress for the Tournament Directors and Organizers.
  • On the Tournaments and Events page, added the postponed date of 15 March for the TCC Holiday Open at Tulsa Community College SE Campus.

The TCC Holiday Open  at Tulsa Community College Southeast Campus is POSTPONED UNTIL A LATER DATE. Due to the ice storm, lack of electricity for many, and the increasing probability of a significant amount of snow/ice this coming weekend; the TCC Holiday Open Chess Tournament is postponed. An alternate date will be rescheduled for the spring semester when TCC reopens. For those of you who mailed in your registration fee, we can keep this fee for the rescheduled date. If you would like a refund, there are several options. You can pick up a check at either the January 12 or February 2 tournaments. If you prefer that a refund be mailed to you, please send your name & address to julie_luscomb@hotmail.com

  • On the Tournaments and Events page,  added details and tournament link for the National Scholastic K-12 Championship at Houston, TX on 7-9 Dec 07. This is the National Grade Championship. Participants should make reservations at the tournament hotel as early as possible to help assure room availability. The tournament entry fee increases from $40 to $60 on 9 November. Bughouse and Blitz side events are extra.

  • OSCO General Meeting: A brief OSCO general meeting will be held prior to Round One of the Claremore Scholastic Open at Roosa Elementary School in Claremore on 29 Sep 07. The purpose of this meeting is to amend some of the language in OSCO's certificate of incorporation to comply with IRS requirements.

  • Updated the Grand Prix Rules to reflect the 7 event schedule and show the points multiplier for the new Grades 6-12 Under 700 section. Grand prix points will accumulate this school year from the two state championships and the top 3 of the other 5 events for each player.

  • Polgar National Championship Update: Rachel Farell finished the 2007 Polgar with a breakeven 3-0-3 and a win in the final round!   • The A&E Movie "Knights of the South Bronx" will be released on DVD 30 October 2007. This is probably the best movie ever about scholastic chess. A copy should be in every school library. You can pre-order copies for $10 today from Amazon.com.

  • It's been a difficult week for our OSCO extended family.
     
    Emily Brown, infant daughter of Madison Elementary Chess Club organizer Donna Brown, left this world last Wednesday, 1 August 2008. You can send condolences and view the obituary online at http://www.havenbrookfuneralhome.com/Obituaries.htm.
     
    OSCO Alumnus Jaron Holliday died 4 August 2008 serving us in the 1st Squadron, 40th Cavalry Regiment in Iraq.

  • Polgar National Championship Update: In the first round of the 2007 Polgar Championships, Rachel Farell plays white against a high rated class A player. The Oklahoma Polgar Champion holds a small advantage in one of her favorite Reti style openings until move 23.   • Updated the OSCO Bylaws page with the new version approved by the membership at the 31 March 2007 Annual Meeting. The hand vote was unanimous in approval.
  • Updated the OSCO Officers page per the Members' Annual Election on 31 March 2007. Julie Luscomb, Rod Whitlatch, David Nichols and Robert Epperly received 2-year terms. Mike Swatek, Dan Wade and Albert Rine received 1-year terms. The 1-year terms will be voted upon again next year for 2-year terms. The new Board will soon make 2007-8 Officer selections for President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary, per the new Bylaws. Many thanks to Donna Brown and Kay Dalton for their service to the OSCO Board the past few years.

Due to the delay of the Carl Albert tournament until 21 April and after the State Championship, the OSCO Board has approved a reduction of the 2006-7 Grand Prix schedule from 8 to 7 events. Players will still drop the two lowest scores from the five non-championship events. Therefore, up to 5 of the 7 scores will count toward total points.
